Wind energy is the most difficult of the renewable resources to harness, due to the often capricious nature of the wind, and the mechanics of wind power, which is ruled by the "cube law". ie, double the wind speed = eight times the potential energy !
Before investing in a wind plant you should do some investigations into the average wind speed at the proposed location and turbine height. If it is less than 8 knots ( 4 metres per second ) forget it !
It's as simple as that ! For a wind plant to be effective you need good consistent winds, which is why they are more successful in coastal areas. If in doubt, better to stick with solar panels, perhaps with a backup motor driven genset.
Also, energy output is proportional to the square of the diameter of the propellor, such that a 2 metre diameter propellor will capture four times the energy of a 1 metre diameter propellor. Use this simple law, to compare various models of windplant, and to expose the ridiculous over rated specifications published
by certain manufacturers.... In particular AirWreck's !!
